During the years of Ukraine’s independence there were a number of implemented studies among children of different ages starting from 10 and till turning 18, when legally child becomes an adult. For example, the study among boys and girls that inject drugs, sell or exchange sex, and also youngsters that have sex relations with other youngsters/men are focused on behavioral study, that is rather stigmatized in most of the countries and is illegal in many states. Consequently, it is very important to protect rights of juveniles during the study.

In 2008 Sociological Association of Ukraine approved the ethical guidelines of social study implementation among children in Ukraine that had been developed on a basis of Regional Office of UNICEF’s recommendations «Ethical guidelines of quantitative studies among adolescents with risky behavior related to HIV» that was prepared by technical advisor on HIV/AIDS Dr. Hilary Homans.
